Hintergründe
Am 30. März 2023 wurde eine weitere neue Star Trek Serie angekündigt: Starfleet Academy. Es gab schon seit einigen Jahren Gerüchte um eine Akademieserie und von Fans wurde diese auch immer wieder gewünscht. Mit dem Ende von Star Trek: Discovery nach der 5. Staffel 2024, liegt die vermutung nahe, dass die neue Serie ebenfalls im 32. Jahrhundert spielt und indirekt die Ereignisse von Discovery fortsetzt. Nähere Informationen wird es noch im Laufe der Zeit bis zum vermutlichen Release im Jahr 2025 geben.
Teile der offiziellen Ankündigung lassen dies ebenso vermuten: "Admission is now open to Starfleet Academy! Explore the galaxy! Captain your destiny! For the first time in over a century, our campus will be re-opened to admit individuals a minimum of 16 Earth years (or species equivalent) who dream of exceeding their physical, mental and spiritual limits, who value friendship, camaraderie, honor and devotion to a cause greater than themselves. The coursework will be rigorous, the instructors among the brightest lights in their respective fields, and those accepted will live and study side-by-side with the most diverse population of students ever admitted. Today we encourage all who share our dreams, goals and values to join a new generation of visionary cadets as they take their first steps toward creating a bright future for us all. Apply today! Anfang 2025 wurden die Dreharbeiten für Staffel 1 beendet. Die Serie wurde direkt um eine zweite Staffel verlängert. Durch die langen Special Effects Arbeiten rechnet man mit einem Release der ersten Staffel 2026. Die Dreharbeiten für Staffel 2 begannen direkt im Anschluss.
Bereits bei der Veröffentlichung der ersten Promo-Bilder und des Trailers gab es von eingefleischten Fans harsche Kritik. Weibliche Jem'Hadar und Charaktere die wie aus einer 90er Jahre Teeny-Serie wirken.
